The Braille Authority of North America (BANA), which meets face-to-face semiannually, will hold its 2017 spring meeting March 12–14 in San Francisco, California at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Hotel, 1800 Old Bayshore Highway, Burlingame, CA 94010. This meeting will be hosted by the California Transcribers and Educators of the Blind and Visually Impaired (CTEBVI) and will immediately follow CTEBVI's 58th annual conference.

Items on the Board’s agenda include updates of BANA’s numerous ongoing projects and publications. The Board will review formal reports from all of BANA’s technical committees such as music, math, foreign language, and tactile graphics and will take action on recommendations when appropriate.

BANA regretfully acknowledges the retirement of Ruth Rozen both from the Hadley Institute for the Blind and from the BANA Board. However, BANA is pleased to welcome newly appointed Hadley Institute representative Vivian Seki to BANA Board membership.

On January 17, 2017, BANA hosted a multi-participant telephone conference that focused on the 2015 revision of the Music Braille Code (MBC). Dan Geminder, Chair of BANA's Music Braille Committee, presented salient code revisions to the more than 20 callers. Together with Music Braille Committee members, Geminder then conducted a lively exchange of MBC questions and answers.

As always, interested parties are invited to observe BANA board meetings. If you are interested in observing the BANA meeting, please contact BANA Chair Jennifer Dunnam at 612-767-5658 or by email at chair@brailleauthority.org.

The mission of the Braille Authority of North America is to assure literacy for tactile readers through the standardization of braille and/or tactile graphics.
