The Braille Authority of North America (BANA), which normally convenes in-person semiannually, will hold its 2022 spring meeting virtually on May 19 and 20. On both days, the meeting will be conducted from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon Eastern Time and from 1:00 to 4:00 PM Eastern Time.

Items on the Board’s agenda will include a review of formal reports from BANA's technical committees such as music, Nemeth, and chemistry, and tactile graphics, as well as its general committees and task forces, such as the BANA General Committee on UEB and the BANA Publications Committee. BANA will act on recommendations and issue committee charges when appropriate.

Jen Goulden, representing CNIB, is BANA’s recently elected Chair and will preside throughout the meeting. The other officers for 2022 are:

Vice Chair—Mary Nelle McLennan representing AER (Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired)

Secretary—Amber Pearcy representing National Braille Press

Treasurer—Danette Johnson representing Hadley

BANA will welcome two new Board members—Wendy Buckley and Kyle DeJute— whose appointments began in January 2022. Wendy represents Perkins School for the Blind, and Kyle DeJute represents the American Printing House for the Blind.

Interested parties are invited to observe the BANA Board meetings. If you are interested in attending as an observer, please email BANA Chair Jen Goulden at chair@brailleauthority.org.

The mission of the Braille Authority of North America is to assure literacy for tactile readers through the standardization of braille and/or tactile graphics.
